Almost 30 years ago my husband and I started going to theHorse Brass Pub. It was established in 1976, and became a cherished British-style pub located on Southeast Belmont Street in Portland's Sunnyside neighborhood. Its authentic ambiance, featuring dark wood interiors and exposed beams, transports patrons to a traditional English setting. We moved far away from Portland, but we are always amazed that the setting remains the same.
The pub boasts an impressive selection of approximately 50 beers on tap, including cask ales, catering to both local and international beer enthusiasts. Visitors have praised the extensive and rotating beer list, noting it as a highlight of their experience. You can get some rare beers, like our last visit Pliney the Elder by Russian River Brewing Company. Their selection never fails to impress.
The menu offers classic British fare such as fish and chips, bangers and mash, meat pies, sausage rolls, and Scotch eggs. The fish and chips are excellent, a personal favorite of mine, with patrons describing them as crispy and satisfying. My husband's personal favorite are the Scotch eggs!
Beyond its food and drink offerings, Horse Brass Pub provides a cozy and inviting atmosphere, complete with dartboards and a lived-in feel that adds to its charm. Reviewers have highlighted the pub's authentic vibe, likening it to a traditional British Pub.
Over the years, Horse Brass Pub has garnered recognition for its contributions to Portland's beer culture. The Horse Brass Pub stands as a testament to Portland's rich beer heritage, offering an authentic British pub experience with exceptional beer selections and traditional culture.
